Well… I see that it’s now, um, June (*ahem*), and with the still somewhat contested arrival of the British summer comes the very latest in a succession of (previously, rather short-lived) attempts to resurrect this woefully neglected little blog…
The last 6 months have been something of a whirlwind of pretty intense, challenging, but hugely rewarding, inspiring and personal-growth-promoting (if you’ll excuse the wincingly introspective angle for a moment) experience, working – as I have been – with the rather brilliant Bright illustration and literary agency in Battersea. I will, hopefully, be adding a little more about the invaluable insights and personal and professional lessons this opportunity afforded over the next few weeks, but suffice to say it has been one of the most important (if not the most important) educative episodes in my career as an illustrator thus far, and an excellent precursor to the MA in Children’s Book Illustration that I am to pursue at the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge come September (squeeeeee!).
Now catapulted back into the solitary environment of my suburban studio (and already feeling nostalgic for the human contact of the office – the prospect of a visit to the doctor’s this morning was, really, disproportionately exciting to me…!), I am busy preparing for the June edition of SCBWI‘s fabulous Illustrator Masterclass Series and thought I’d share one of the characters I have been sketching as part of the development work for this week’s Illustration Friday (topic: worn ):
More to come, as the illustrative gears re-engage, but meanwhile I hope you all have an utterly fantastic (and, if it’s not too much to hope for, sunny?!) weekend!
